Registered under Societies Act, XXI of 1860 in August-1995, the origin of MFU was a drive and commitment of few experienced scientists and consultants from B.A.R.C and C.I.F.A who have been providing quality consulting services to atomic research centre and Central Institute of Fresh Water Aquaculture and other public /private sector agencies. Movement for Urbanization (MFU), a Society by a team of dedicated professionals in Research, Evaluation, Monitoring, Capacity Building and Program Implementation. Since its inception in 1995, our focus has always been to probe and go in depth in understanding socio-cultural processes and nuances and find out objective oriented mechanisms to address issues ranging from Health to Livelihoods, Education and Governance. The overarching goal has always been inclusive development in enhancing the quality of life of the deprived lot. Needless to mention here that in last 22 years of operation, our skilled professionals have developed fair measure of understanding and expertise in development research, impact assessments and evaluation and need based implementation and carved out a niche of our own in research and consulting in different states of India.
The thematic line of service delivery of MFU is guided and derived from the vision of the firm. While it looks in-house expertise, the focus is to concentrate on those thematic domains including governance that matters most to the major segment of population and specifically to the people who are in the bottom of the pyramid.
In health sector, we have expertise in maternal & child health & nutrition, adolescent health, HIV/AIDS, gender & sexuality, water, sanitation & hygiene, governance, etc. Services to improve preschool, primary, middle and higher level educations are our major thrust areas of consulting. Similarly, in the livelihood sector we focus on promotion of agriculture, non-timber forest produces, livestock and various other service, trading and manufacturing businesses. In response to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) needs in general and Resettlement & Rehabilitation (R&R) of displaced & affected people in specific, MFU provides services in Planning, implementation and Monitoring & Evaluation of CSR initiatives. We conduct socio-economic survey, R&R preference survey and prepare rehabilitation action plan.

Movement For Urbanization. has vast experience & dedicated professionals for conducting large-scale surveys, evaluations and research applying quantitative and qualitative methods. In last 22 years, we have completed more than 45 survey/research/Implementation projects on health, education, livelihood & socio-economic assessments.
MFU has worked with various national / international agencies like the World Bank, WHO, DFID supported project, Xavier Institute of Management, etc. We have also experience of working with government projects supported by the Department of Forest, Department of Health & Family Welfare, and various Municipal Corporations. During the course of our 22 years of operation, we have established and gained experience of developing and maintaining productive, professional relationships with government counterparts, donors, civil society and other stakeholders.
We have expertise and experience of undertaking research studies using exclusively quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method approach. Our technical expertise includes study/survey designing (e.g. experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive methods); developing study instruments; tool translation & piloting; obtaining Ethics Clearance; mobilizing competent data collection team; classroom & on-field training; house listing; data collection maintaining ethical standards; data scrutiny & validation; data entry package development using CSPro; transporting data to SPSS/STATA & analysis; interpreting & writing reports.
Apart from doing various quantitative studies and research works, we very much understand the steps and requirements of qualitative research starting with framing research questions, using appropriate tools & techniques, using PRA and PLA methods for data collection, data recording, transcribing, translating, developing coding schemes and linking with research questions and coding & analyzing using NVivo. Some of the qualitative studies undertaken by MFU are e.g. Mobilisation and sensitization of Project affected people, R & R Study and determining the beneficiary, Socio Economic Study of Industrial Projects as well as linear projects, mobilizing local opinion in favour of the projects etc,
The key resources of MFU have the expertise in providing solution based Geographic Information services to various public and private sector agencies. We have the expertise in providing the application / development program concerning the optimum utilization of natural resources, geo-environmental aspect and mapping using satellite remote sensing, aerial photographs, base maps & GIS.
We have achieved cent percent success rate in delivering the services to our clients by taking timely completing of field research activities. We have a core team of 12 quantitative and qualitative researchers, 21 field executives, transcribers, translators and more than 50 research investigators to undertake the field research activities including the qualitative studies.
We have also experience of developing and using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) technique for data collection (Android base Tablet application).
We put in place a strong management team or smooth administration of surveys/studies where timely delivery and quality checks are ensured.

Sri Nimai Charan Mohanty, Retd IFS Head (Environment):- Sri Mohanty is associated with us since last three years. He has worked with dept of Environment & Forest, Govt of India for more than 25 years and retired as Conservator of Forest. He has also worked for more than 5 years in costal regulatory zone management (CRZ) activities and contributed a lot for research, livelihood restoration programme for the people living in the costal zones of the State. He is closely associated in deciding policy framework for CRZ management.
Dr. Niranjan Lenka, MD, Retired Professor, S.C.B Medical College- :- Dr. Niranjan Lenka is associated with us since last 2 years. He is a renowned medicine professor and worked as professor in S.C.B Medical College and hospital and in other govt hospitals. He is also actively associated with social activities and providing free health services to the poorest of the poor and to the people not able to avail medical services.
Dr. Jyoti Pattnaik, MD. Professor, S.C.B Medical College (T.B & Chest) :- Dr. Pattnaik given us assurance to be associated for the noble cause and presently do the social work for Laxman Patnaik Smruti Sansad. She is one of the renowned consultant in the State in the field of TB and Chest diseases. He has worked as advisor and consultant for implementation of many Poverty alleviation programme of the Central and State Govt. Besides managing current assignments in social sectors, charged with the responsibility of introducing new practices. Currently heading the team responsible for managing the Resettlement and rehabilitation of project displaced and affected people, the team of developing a C.S.R strategy for a fertilizer & Power industry, providing support to the scholars of University of BATH of U.K for their research on religion and well being of the society, setting up ventures on behalf of medical professional including responsibilities like (project designing, development, getting financial closure, project implementation & strategy formulation).

He has worked as programme manager in National level NGOs for years. He has been in charge of design of training programme, implementation of rural development activities.
Advocate Mr. Jay Prakash Praharaj M.A. & L.L.B and MSW from Utkal University- Programme Manager:- Sri Jay Prakash Praharaj is associated with us since 2014. He has worked as programme manager in International level Companies like G.M.R & LANCO for years.
